Nina Robinson Reflects On Time With AmeriCorps & Tutoring Plus

Nina Robinson started out with Tutoring Plus as a passionate volunteer tutor/mentor in the fall of 2016, working one-on-one with a middle school student. In the spring, Nina began a half-year of service as a Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassador of Mentoring, hosted at Tutoring Plus in the Enrichment Curriculum Coordinator position. Nina left Tutoring Plus with a wonderful legacy of hands-on, engaging science, math, and gender-specific curriculum, that will inspire youth for years to come.

About her year, Nina shared the following reflections:

“I served as the Enrichment Curriculum Coordinator. My favorite part of my position was meeting new people. I loved seeing the kids faces light up when they did a fun activity or completed a really hard homework assignment with their match. I will cherish those bonding moments forever.

During my time at Tutoring Plus of Cambridge, I learned more about different cultures and how it contributes to the vibrancy of an entire neighborhood. The Port Neighborhood of Cambridge is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city that is rich with history and innovation.

After my time at T+, community service means being the change that you want to see while also being yourself and using your best attributes to make a difference in the lives of others. There is nothing too big or small that you cannot do for your fellow neighbor.

In the fall, I look forward to beginning a rigorous masters program for Industrial and Systems Engineering.”
