Our Mission

Our mission is to advance educational equity
by supporting youth in their academic, personal and social growth through free, individualized tutoring, mentoring and enrichment programs.

Our Story:

Tutoring Plus was founded in 1964 when a group of Cambridge mothers came together, determined to provide more academic support for their children.

The Mother’s Executive Committee of the Cambridge Neighborhood House established an initial partnership with the MIT Social Service Committee, a student group that had been inspired to local action by President Johnson’s War on Poverty.

This partnership launched one of the longest-running out-of-school-time academic programs for Cambridge youth. What began as matches meeting at kitchen tables has grown to a center-based model that provides over 170 students with free tutoring, mentoring and enrichment support each year.
