Thank you to everyone who celebrated 60 years of empowering students with us! We wanted to share a speech one of our students gave at the event!
“Tutoring Plus has been home since the first day I started in 7th grade. T+ was a safe space, a space to learn about changing emotions and the phases of young adulthood. It’s a place to learn and practice different topics and subjects. It’s a place to laugh and talk to friends. It’s a place to be with people, people who love and care. The tutoring plus staff have seen me grow up, and supported both me and my family. During COVID-19 they supported us in ways you wouldn’t expect from a tutoring program to do. During boring summers they gave us fun activities and games. They provided communities to bring along youth discussions and growth. I loved and still love my time with tutoring plus, they are my second home. A place for me to go to every Tuesday afternoon. A place to destress, a place to grow into adulthood. Tutoring Plus is like my greenhouse, warm and toasty, always equipped with whatever I need to make sure I can bloom my flowers. From the staff to my tutor, to other students, it was a family not by blood, yet still by love. Tutoring Plus is a community that has made an enormous impact on my life, They’ve helped both my family and me, and I say I’m lucky because me and Tutoring Plus found each other, But I think that every kid in this city, every kid in our state, in this world deserves a family and home, and greenhouse, a tutoring plus. I’m proud to say that I will be going to Northeastern next year, and I credit Tutoring Plus for carrying me and motivating me through high school.”
